Good news everyone!
Today we like to introduce you to our newest Release of iBuntu, Version 2.0:
As you can see at first sight we implemented the Design Look&Feel of macOS 11.0 “Big Sur”.
But that’s not the only new thing – we completely rebased iBuntu under the skin, switching from Ubuntu 18.04 and Gnome to Kubuntu 20.04 and KDE as Desktop Environment.
Also we put a lot of cool Features and Software-Packes together which will help you connect your Android Decives, your Apple Music Account and your iCloud Data easily with iBuntu OS so that iBuntu really becomes now a full grown alternative to a “real” mac.
Let’s see some of the Changes we made:
- Wallpapers of Big Sur as well as of all previous macOS and MacOS X Versions preinstalled
- Plank dock will be replaced by Latte-Dock in Version 2
- Preinstalled Software Package:
- Apple Music
- Balena Etcher
- Boot Repair
- iCloud Connection (Calendar, Contacts, iCloud Drive, Find my Friend, Find my iPhone, Keynote, Mail, Notes, Numbers, Pages. Photos, Reminders)
- iBuntu Update Tool
- Kamoso Photo App
- Kolour Paint
- KDE Connect
- KDE Partition Manager
- KWallet Manager
- VLC Media Player
- Screensaver (macOS Flurry)
we offer a almost macOS-like Mission Control vor showing all open windows as well as a Launchpad similar to macOS.
Also iBuntu Lix Sur now finaly comes with a Global Menu!
And of course again with a Dark Mode already pre-configured which you can easily swith to like you might already know from Catalinux with a Deskmode Switcher which is directly linking to the KDE-System-Settings and we integrate iCloud Support for our OS.
|Attention to everyone who already uses our Version 1 of iBuntu (Catalinux) and want’s to migrate to Version 2 now:|
Since the change from Version 1 to Version 2 of iBuntu is a HUGE Migration (switching from Ubuntu 18.04 to Kubuntu 20.04 in the Background as well as switching from Gnome to KDE as Desktop Environment) you CAN’T use the iBuntu Update Tool as of now to migrate from Version 1 to Version 2!
Please: Do NOT use the iBuntu Update Tool to migrate from Version 1 to Version 2 or you will end up with a broken system!!
We will perform a Patch for this in the following days and send out an extra Newsletter for this purpose on how to perform the Migration without data loss.
One of the biggest benefits of the Tools which comes with KDE is obviously KDE Connect. This tool allows you to connect your Android Phone easily with iBuntu and exchange data.
If you never have heared of it we just provide here a video which explains the tool on board on a elementaryOS Installation (own tutorials of iBuntu with KDE Connect will follow in the upcomming weeks)
So that’s it – our new version is finally out in the open and ready to be downloaded, tested out, used. Within the next days we will provide a migration tutorial so that everyone who is currently using Catalinux can migrate to Lix Sur without data loss.
We hope you will enjoy our new Release of iBuntu and will be happy if you spread the word and give us feedback.
