Greetings everybody!
Yes, we are still alive. And no, we didn’t give up on iBuntuOS. That’s the short news for the moment.
In more detail let’s be said that we definitely discontinued “Lix Sur” for good. No more updates, no more support. But we still will keep it available for download as long as we won’t have a suitable replacement.
This “suitable replacement” we definitely will develop. Based on either Gnome again or another leightweighted desktop-environment. This we will see.
Our biggest challange in the past was to build a distro-maker which provides us with everything we need. With Lix Sur and KDE we couldn’t reach that goal like we wanted and got stranded with bugs we couldn’t fix for ourselves. We still have no developer in our team who would feel capable to do so, so that’s why there won’t ever be a Version 2.1 of “Lix Sur”. It was a one-time-thing.
The next thing on our roadmap now will be a Version 1.4 of “Catalinux” – which basically will just be a patch-version to get on the newest Ubuntu 18.04 base there. Also we will improve the Big Sur Design there and maybe – just maybe, no promises yet – will include a global menu again since with “Fildem Menu” we now finally seem to have a good new solution for that.

And for the future in let’s say late 2021/early 2022 we plan to develop a Version 3. As you know, Apple announced macOS Monterey in their last keynote. So in good old tradition we will take the Design “Monterey” will have and make it the default look&feel of “iBuntu 3.0”.
It’s all still very vague here but you see we are still here and if everything goes like it should you will get an Update of Catalinux this year for sure and by the end of the year you might will have than Catalinux 1.4 (with integrated Big Sur Designs we just will re-Label to “Lix Sur”) and iBuntu 3.0 (no name defined yet).
But for all users of “Lix Sur” we just have to say we unfortunately won’t continue this version in any way and as soon as Catalinux 1.4 will be out we will move the “Lix Sur” iso in our archive where you still can download it if you want to but than we definitely will stop any kind of support for this than outdated discontinued release.
We don’t consider “Lix Sur” as a failure – especially because we know it was a worlwide success and many of you in all parts of the world enjoyed it. It was just a one-time-release which unfortunately we can’t free from it’s bugs so we will move on. So more like a Windows 8 than a Windows Vista pendant ๐
We will keep you informed just check up once in a while ๐
I appreciate your work and admire your honesty. Keep up the good work and I am rooting for you.
John
