Hello Fans – the weekly announcment here for you as quickly as possible: Again our complete hosting was crashed since the free hoster we were so far decided to upgrade his php Version to 7.4 which resulted in dumping most installations for all users. Nice work!
So we moved again and now we have full control over the backend of our website too – if you want to get something done, just do it yourself!
The latest iBuntu News so far:
- iBuntu 1.3 will come in August, since we will wait to integrate the Ubuntu Patch 18.04.5 in it
- iBuntu 2.0 will – eventually – come in September or October we just don’t have time so far for developing since we had to rebuild our Homepage for the second time now in three weeks. But it’s nice to see that there are so many themes now popping up at gnome-look.org (all legal to download and use, I can’t stress this out enough for everyone who still claims that if we do exactly this and than just share the result with the world this would be “illegal” but the sharing of how to’s and Download-Links about this themes wouldn’t be. Nonsense! Either both is “illegal” or none and since the first isn’t – well, we aren’t too!
- Anyway, we still search for the best Themes to pick for our final integration-tests. We would so hope to get you a HUD-Menu back but sadly what we tested so far is so buggy that I can’t accept this as a component of our final release.
- That’s also why I am still looking to the KDE-side of the river and play with the thought of switching from Ubuntu to Kubuntu as base of our System – only for Version 2.0 and beyond, Version 1.0 will stay untouched with Ubuntu 18.04 until it’s EOL.
It’s imoprtant for you to know that the Release of 2.0 won’t mean the end of “Catalinux” – we still will provide Security Updates and so on. So who ever is already on a Version 1 of our OS and like what he has so far – we will keep Catalinux alive.
I just don’t want to release one Ubuntu and one KDE Version since this only would confuse. Maybe – if I really decide to give KDE a Shot after some tests – I will create a Beta-Version for all who are interessted in testing. But first of all I will do tests – in my opinion it’s all about functionality and graphics as close as possible to macOS. If KDE does this job better than Gnome than it’s clear where the road will take us but I am sceptical since I am playing around with KDE since 2009 and never really fully was satisfied. We will see.
So long.
